Technical Details & FAQ’s
Some technical details for the tech savvy folks, along with general info and FAQ’s.
Public IP Addresses
Our default method to provision IPv4 address is using CNAT. In order to preserve the limited number of IPv4 addresses that remain globally, we will provision by default a dynamically assigned address from the RFC 6598 block of 100.64.0.0/10. You will be assigned a range of dedicated ports to use for any inbound services that require access. This is our default method, as most customers do not require any complex routing requirements.
Optionally if you require a public IPv4 address to be statically assigned directly there is a $20/mo charge and a one-time setup of $50.
IPv6 public static addresses are assigned automatically at no charge (on supported devices).
Data Transfer
As outlined above, all plans have the option of unlimited data transfer with no caps or limits. This is included in the price of all plans. Subject to our residential acceptable use policy.
Router
We support three options for routers:
- Bring your own router (BYOR): no charge
- Supplied by us:
- Basic WiFi: one-time rental charge of $90
- HyperSpeed WiFi: $10/mo
Basic WiFi – Supports WiFi speeds up to 100 Mbps, has 4 local LAN 1Gbps ports.
HyperSpeed WiFi
Current model as of August, 2019: Supports WiFi speeds up to 867 Mbps, has 3 local LAN 1 Gbps ports. For the geeks, its a dual-band 802.11ac 2×2 MIMO.
Future model (pods): Supports same speeds as current model, but supports mesh, has a mobile app, parental controls and much more!
As this option carries a monthly fee, free upgrades are possible as we release new models. Considering purchasing a similar spec’d router yourself would cost upwards of $200. So if you upgraded once or twice per year, that would cost you more than renting it from us.
Connection Media
We use GPON technology to connect units over single-mode fibre. This requires a optical network terminal (ONT) to act as a media converter to convert the fibre to a standard RJ45 copper connection. Your router would then plug in via a standard copper patch cord to the ONT.
Setup Fee
Plans are subject to a one-time setup fee:
- 10 Mbps plan : $100
- 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps plans: $50
- 10 Gbps plan: $200-$400 (based on transceivers and location in building)
The setup fee is not charged until after the first 30 day free period. So the first 30 days are truly free and risk free.
